DJ Roc Is the Sound of a City.

There are some people you do not have to force into the story.

They already belong there.

That is how I feel about DJ Roc “The Crack Capone.”

When you are building something like ROOTED, you cannot just think about who can play music. You have to think about who carries energy, who carries culture, who carries history, and who knows how to move a room in a way that feels real. Not manufactured. Not watered down. Not borrowed. Real.

And when I think about Chicago, movement, footwork, juke, South Side energy, and the kind of sound that can wake a room all the way up, DJ Roc is one of the names that belongs in that conversation.

He is a real piece of Chicago music culture.

Born and raised in the Low End of Chicago, DJ Roc comes from the soil of a sound that helped shape how this city dances, celebrates, competes, creates, and expresses itself. With more than 25 years in both producing and DJing, he has built a name that carries weight because it was earned. Not handed out. Not hyped up for a moment. Earned.

And that matters to me.

Because ROOTED was never supposed to be another random event where culture gets used as decoration while the real architects get overlooked. ROOTED was created because I got tired of watching Black creativity be referenced, copied, consumed, and celebrated from a distance while the people actually building it were still fighting for visibility, access, and opportunity.

So when ROOTED highlights somebody like DJ Roc, it is intentional.

It is about honoring legacy while still building forward.
It is about showing people what it looks like when a platform actually respects the culture it claims to represent.
It is about putting real Chicago energy inside a room that is meant to feel elevated, powerful, and alive.
